Hi Bedlamites
You've received this email because you are signed up to
the Friends of Bedlam website at www.bedlamites.co.uk
Welcome to your monthly FoB update...
London Party
A blast from the past, a drink with old (and not-so-old) mates or just to
find out who's marrying who, why not come along to the FoB party in
London on Saturday 7th May? Our 3rd annual London gathering will take
place at Glasshouse Stores, 55 Brewer Street, Soho (nearest tube station
is Piccadilly Circus) and kicks off at 7.30pm. Further details and a map
are available on the events page at www.bedlamites.co.uk
Pub Gatherings
If you can't wait until then, the Edinburgh and London FoB mobs meet the
first Tuesday of every month (next meeting Tuesday 1st March). The Edinburgh
posse meet in Cloisters (Tolcross) from 8pm and the London posse will be
in The Salisbury (St Martin's Lane) "after work".
NSDF
Congratulations to the production team of Scaramouche Jones which has been
accepted for NSDF 2005. This is excellent news for the team and the
national profile of EUTC. It also helps to remind Edinburgh University
of EUTC's excellent work at a time where this is becoming more and more
important. As a result of this production, there is an EUTC spin-off
production company, Painted Face, who are taking the show on tour after
NSDF. Painted Face is currently looking for venues in the South East,
Leeds and Glasgow for an audience of 100-200. If anyone can help the
company find venues, please contact Miriam@painted-face.co.uk
Grant Award
FoB has recently approved a modest grant of £30 which was requested as a
contribution towards the cost tools for mainterms. We have been assured
that they will kept in a secure cupboard for future generations of
mini-bedlamites to use...
FoB are also expecting a grant request from EUTC to help with the costs
associated with taking Scaramouch Jones to NSDF this year. We'll keep
you posted on this one.
Building Update
There have been some developments relating to the sale of the Bedlam
Theatre. The latest proposal seems to come from a New York film director
who now lives in Edinburgh. The proposal is to buy Bedlam, upgrade it
and then timeshare it with EUTC. EUTC do have the support of EUSA and it
is being dealt with in the very capable hands of the current EUTC
President. FoB is there for support and we'll update you all on
developments at the London party in May.
EUTC Annual Report
As part of the ongoing positive promotion of EUTC's work, an annual
report of the company's work will be produced. Far from being a list of
boring facts and figures, it will be filled with pictures and news on
awards, reviews, NSDF shows, edited highlights of the year's productions,
EUTC's community and building projects. FoB will be supporting this with
its wealth of design and publication experience (thanks Chris Cooke!) and
will also aid with the distribution and some costs. Creative input for
the name of the report would be gratefully received - current suggestions
include "It's not just Bedlam".
FoB Promo
Chris Hoban (our esteemed committee member) is in Auld Reekie next week
playing a set at Medina's (cellar of Negociants), Potterrow on Tuesday 1st
March at 8.30pm. He assures us it's a great night with some quality
performers - the last event Chris played was joined by headline act KT
Tunstall who's recently gone on to great things. You can get more
details at www.acousticedinburgh.com
As ever, if you have any news you would like to share, shows to promote
or relevant business to tout please just let us know by e-mailing
info@bedlamites.co.uk. Please remember to pass on the website details
(www.bedlamites.co.uk) to any former bedlamites who have not yet signed
up.
Cheers,
the FoB committee
