Welcome
to Bedlamites., the website of Friends of Bedlam.
Welcome to Friends of Bedlam - the alumni association for friends of the
Edinburgh University Theatre Company (formerly DramSoc)
Friends of Bedlam is an association set up so that former EUTC and EUDS
members can keep in touch with each other, can check out what the current
generation of Bedlamites is up to, and support student theatre in Edinburgh.
There is full information about the association
here and the form for patronship
is here.
Friends of Bedlam was constituted in February 2003
(all that constitution
type stuff is here) and launched with
two parties - one in London and one in Edinburgh during May 2003. Full details and pictures from our
events is here
Also check out the alumni directory and show archive we are building
here at bedlamites.co.uk (you will need to become a patron to get full
access). And if you want to see what is happening at the EUTC just now check
the main Bedlam website, the Bedlam's Fringe website and
the Improverts website

The manic auditions,
the half finished scripts,
the late nights,
the heavy sets,
the last minute rehearsals,
the broken seats,
the cold (oh, very cold) February nights

For many students at Edinburgh University, while the lectures and seminars
exist so you can get a degree, it's what happens outside the formalities of
academia that shapes your ambitions, equips you with skills and sets you off
on your chosen career. No where else can that more be true than at the
'legendary' Bedlam Theatre.
While the Bedlam so often lived up to its name, it was that freedom to do
what we wanted - to experiment, to play, to be in control - which made the
Bedlam experience so important for me and so many other former Bedlamites.
Friends of Bedlam is about staying in touch with the people who shared that
experience with you, and helping current Edinburgh students to 'do the
Bedlam thing'.
I hope you can join us, and I look forward to catching up on old times at
future Friends of Bedlam events.
